The Meizu 16s Pro Officially: Snapdragon 855 Plus and Triple Photo Sensor
Meizu today presented the Meizu 16s Pro, successor to the 16s released in April. On the menu Meizu delivers a boosted device supposed to fill the slight gaps of his little brother.
Everything for the screen
Meizu still doesn’t give in to the notch trend and stays true to his idea of gradually reducing borders, miniaturizing the selfie camera.
On the front, it’s impossible to tell the difference between the 16s and the 16s, which retains a 6.2-inch Super Amoled VDE hand-made display with Samsung. With a definition of 2232 x 1080 pixels at the ratio of 18.69, the screen occupies 91.53% of the front surface. Also it has a sampling rate of 160Hz promising an extremely low touch response time. As for the fingerprint reader under the screen, it guarantees a 0.15s unlock.
The 16s Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, a boosted version of the Snapdragon 855 engraved in 7mm. It is placed alongside the Adreno 640 GPU coupled with 6 or 8GB of Ram depending on the versions.
The device is the first smartphone from Meizu to be equipped with a UFS 3.0 storage chip. For the general experience and Gaming, the 16s Pro remains equipped well on haptic engine mEngine 3.0. There is also the HyperGaming mode which remains unchanged and OneMind now in version 3.5.
Camera: we move to 3 sensors
On the back, the other big evolution comes from the photo module. Indeed, a3rd Sony IMX481 sensor of 16MP opening to f/2.2 is added to the duo of 48MP and 20 MP (IMX586 – IMX350) stabilized on the upper left side of the device. Naturally Meizu promises ever more detailed and ever brighter shots. We also note the arrival of the 4k recording in 60 FPS long awaited among Flyme users.
On the front is the 20MP Samsung 3T2 camera selfie, which is the smallest smartphone camera on the market.
Ports and connectivity
Like its little brother, the 16s Pro is the dead end of the Jack port because of an internal layout prioritizing battery and compactness. With a 3600 mAh battery, it weighs only 166g and is 7.7mm thick.
In terms of connectivity we find the NFC and bluetooth 5.0 and the latest generation Wifi. However, we do not yet have any information about the 4G bands available on the global version.
Flyme 8, price and availability
The 16s Pro will be the first aircraft of the brand to be powered by Flyme 8 whose first beta has just been released. This new system introduces the “Alive Design” that now applies throughout the interface. Among the big news are a big overhaul of Flyme’s animations, transitions and interactions and the introduction of an intuitive new personal assistant called Aicy and lots of other optimizations and improvements.
We will prepare a dossier dedicated to Flyme 8 in the day where all the new products will be presented.
To conclude, the Meizu 16s Pro is already available for sale in China in 4 colors: “Black mirror”, “White unicorn”, Twilight green, “White stoy”. In terms of price, the 16s pro starts at 340 euros for the 6-128GB of storage, 380 for the 8-128GB version and 415 for the 8-256GB version.
