Meizu 18 & 18 Pro: The 2 new flagships are official

Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro

Paris (France), 03/03/21 – MEIZU officially presented the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro, 2 high-end 5G and ultra-powerful smartphones marketed from 560 € in China.

The manufacturer continues to forge its way to the top of the basket by delivering increasingly sophisticated products. The Meizu 18 and 18 Pro stand out as a very good premium alternative in a high intensity segment.

A new screen and a new design

Throughout the design of the 18 series, which contrasts with his predecessor , Meizu demonstrates its desire to evolve and go beyond its user base.
The 2 devices are equipped with a large 6.2-inches and 6.7 inchesE4 Super Amoled screen for the standard version and pro version. Made by Samsung, this curved screen on all 4 edges has a resolution of 3200 x 1440 (2K +) at 20: 9 ratio. It supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz and is HDR10+ compatible . On the upper side we find a 40MP front camerahoused in a central punch.

To unlock the device, MEIZU is the 2nd manufacturer in the world to choose the Qualcomm Ultrasonic solution. This under-screen technology relies on ultrasound to recognize fingerprints. It guarantees unlocking in less than 0.1s.

Among the other novelties, we appreciate the return of 3D Press allowing system interactions by pressing the screen.

On the back, the MEIZU logo is now lying on the lower right side while the photo module is housed in a vertical block. Another good point for MEIZU, these devices are relatively thin and light since the Meizu 18 weighs only 162g for 8.18mm thick in its standard version and 189g for 8,1mm thick for the 18 Pro

Powerful and polyvalent devices

Unsurprisingly at this price level, the models are powered by theSnapdragon 888 processor which is currently the most powerful and versatile SoC available on the market. The available configurations start at 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and go up to 12GB of Ram and 256GB of storage ( LPDDR5 + UFS3.1)

To power them, a 4500 Mah battery compatible with 40 W fast charging (wired and wireless) powers the Meizu 18 Pro. Against a 4000Mah battery compatible with 36 W fast charging for the Meizu 18.

Regarding multimedia, the 18 series is Widevine L1 certified for high definition playback on video plateforms. We also note the presence of true stereo speaker. The haptic engine mEngine upgrade to the 4th generation.
18 series is compatible Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, 5G, Bluetooth 5.2 and runs on Flyme 9 based on Android 11.

The Meizu 18 Pro is also waterproof and dust resistant however no certification has been advanced yet.

A new king of photography

The other major difference between the 2 models relies on the camera configuration. The Meizu 18 Pro is by far the strongest. It is equipped with 4 cameras including a main 50MP Samsung Isocell GN1 f / 1.9 sensor, alongside a 32MP f / 2.2 Sony IMX616 ultra wide angle 130 ° sensor. Another 8MP sensor and a 3D ToF sensor are also in the game.

The presence of the high-end sensor from Samsung Isocell GN1 should ensure very good sensitivity to light for better night shots with a Zoom that can go up to x30

The Meizu 18 has 3 camera sensors including a 64MP Sony IMX682 f / 1.6 main sensor, alongside a 16MP f / 2.2 Samsung S5K3P9SX sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens.

Both models are optically and electronically stabilized (Ultra SMA OIS + EIS). They both can shoot up to 8K.
